DOMAIN NAMES

The advantages of using a domain name is that they are easy to remember than the actual TCP/IP address which is a group of 4 x 2 digit numbers. The other great advantage is that if you change your IP address, you still keep the same domain name.

In the UK Nominet maintains the register of .uk domain names and runs the technology which locates a computer on the Internet hosting the web site or email system you're looking for when you type in a web address or send an email to an address that ends in .uk. A little like directory enquiries looking up the telephone number for the company you require but fully automatically behind the scenes.
For this service Nominet charge a fee which is why you have to pay for your domain name. The normal period is two years with the option to renew. If ordered direct from Norminet currently charge £94.  We charge only £5.98 for 2 years. We can do this due to the special link to Norminet.  

Other domain types .com, .eu etc have different registration bodies who charge different fees, which is why domain cost vary.
